Primary Purpose:

Provide creative movement, structured physical activity and dance instruction to high school scholars in the Color Guard program of the Titan Regiment at Manor New Technology High School.  Connect community and school programs through strategic partnerships that aid and expand learning opportunities for students at the campus, specifically in preparation for competitions and public performances.

 

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED, Valid Texas educational aide certificate; successfully pass a skills assessment test (48 College Hours/Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred).

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Work closely with the campus head band director and the other staff members to develop visual program,
  • Attend all rehearsals,
  • Instruct members in fundamental and advanced flag techniques,
  • Teach members program material,
  • Coordinate color guard rehearsal schedule with the full marching band,
  • Create rehearsal plans in cooperation with head band director,
  • Attend all performances and ensure the highest possible level of performance from the color guard members thorough a proper warm-up process, effective preparation, and attention to individual members,
  • Teaches precautions and procedures to help students prevent injuries. Promptly documents all injuries and submits reports to nurse, trainer, and head band director,
  • Recruit potential color guard members while retaining current members,
  • Ensure that color guard is properly equipped for rehearsals and performances,
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the head band director, color guard members and band members,
  • Ensure equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances including maintenance, repair, and acquisition recommendations,
  • Participate in Fall and Winter/Spring Guard,
  • Carries out a practice schedule as developed by the head band director,
  • Coordinates activities with the school calendar,
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time,
  • Assumes the responsibility for the development of off-season activities (e.g., summer training, clinics, etc.)
  • Takes precautions to ensure staff/student safety. Does not leave students unsupervised,
  • Participates in national, state, and/or regional activities that advance district goals.

Experience:

Must have experience working with school age children in a public education environment.  Candidate must have a successful record teaching in a dance studio and or through private dance instruction.  Candidate must have skills at choreographing dance in various styles.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Extensive successful experience as a color guard designer and instructor for marching band or drum corps.
  • Must be available for Band Camp (days will be flexed out in conjunction with Fall Break).
  • Must attend all rehearsals and performances and be available for post-season playoff travel.
  • Work 40 hours per week and be flexible within the 40-hour work week to adjust to performance times. No over time will be granted for this position.
  • Utilize Skyward to clock in and out.
  • Reports to Campus Principal and Head Band Director
  • Must meet criminal background and MISD hiring standards.

Predictable and regular attendance expected.
