Job Title: General Maintenance Technician

Department/Campus: Facilities & Construction

Pay Grade: Operational/Technical

 

Primary Purpose:

Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout district.  Assist with maintenance of grounds.

 

Education/Certification:

Valid Texas driver’s license

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools
  • Ability to work independently
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Ability to communicate with others in English

Experience:

One year experience in general building maintenance

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district faciliti
  • Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repair
  • Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
  • Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by Director of Facilities and Construction.
  • Assist with mowing and detailing of district groun
  • Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.
  • Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
  • Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required.
  • Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.
  • Install ceiling and flooring material
  • Operate light truck to transport furniture and equipment throughout district.
  • Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedur
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, et
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
  • Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

None

 

Equipment Used:

Power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools, concrete mixer, mower, weed trimmer, blower, edger, ladders, forklift, elevated lift equipment, garden tools, and light truck or van.

This job requires the following physical demands:  significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent walking, standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching and/or crawling; work at elevated heights; work around machinery with moving parts; significant fine finger dexterity.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and smell.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, and peripheral vision.  Demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate tools, mowers and landscaping equipment.  Occasionally required to work from ladders; exposed to noise from power equipment; and exposed to fumes and toxic chemicals.

 

Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing.  Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.  The job is performed under some temperature extremes and hazardous conditions and requires frequent districtwide travel.
