Job Title: Director of Early Childhood

Pay Grade: Administrative/Professional
Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the Early Childhood and Preschool instructional programs to ensure compliance of District, State, and Federal guidelines. Provide general oversight to the Childcare Enrichment Services programs and provides supervision of the Early Childcare Development Center.
Qualifications/Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree with teacher certification and emphasis in early childhood education. Master’s Degree preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong communication, public relations, & interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of federal and state guidelines governing early childhood programs.
- Ability to interpret & implement policy & procedures.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals.
- Knowledge of budget development and implementations.
- Ability to interpret data.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, parents, community, and the general public.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Experience:
Three years successful early childhood teaching experience; three years in a leadership role of an early childhood program
Essential Job Functions:
- Plan, organize, implement, supervise, coordinate and evaluate the Early Childhood and Preschool programs.
- Ensure coordination of services and communications between the early childhood and elementary levels of instruction.
- Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis, and that findings are used to make the early childhood program more effective.
- Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support subordinates in accomplishing early childhood educational goals.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge program effectiveness.
- Conduct routine site visits for all programs; ensure that staff maintains clean, sanitary and organized classroom areas, and equipment and classrooms are arranged for optimum efficiency/usage.
- Recommend sound polices and implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in area of early childhood education.
- Compile, maintain, file, and present all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Administer the early childhood budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently.
- Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
- Recommend and approve purchase orders for department needs.
- Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure operation of the early childhood program.
- Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by designated administrative staff in which duties are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
