Primary Purpose:

The PYP Teacher is responsible for partnering with school administration and International Baccalaureate as a data coach, instructional specialist, learning facilitator, school leader, and catalyst for change. The PYP Teacher will play a key role in enhancing student learning by supporting instructional effectiveness through facilitation of teacher collaboration; individual coaching; professional development planning, facilitation, and assessment of programs.

Education/Certification:

Bachelors’ Degree

Valid Texas teacher certification

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIES

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Knowledge, skill and ability in the use of e-mail, internet, power point, spreadsheets and word-processing.

 

Experience

Three (3) to five (5) years teaching experience, in an IB school, preferred.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Serve as a member of the campus improvement team.
  • Pedagogical leader of the PYP
  • Point person for the PYP
  • Implementation of the PYP
  • Facilitate learning of staff necessary for implementation of the PYP
  • Ensure fidelity of implementation of the PYP (i.e., training and methods are not simply provided, but systematically implemented, monitored, reinforced, and revisited).
  • Provides input for PYP budget needs
  • Share in the ownership of the responsibility for success and struggles of implementing the PYP to include the following duties:
  • Manage the process of curriculum review and development
  • Monitor and review the implementation of the PYP
  • Review current educational resources, from national and international sources, to inform the ongoing development of the programmer
  • Monitor and contribute to the maintenance and development of the PYP section of the OCC in order to promote its use by teachers and administrators
  • Contribute responsibility to staff management in order to maintain a well-functioning PYP team
  • Provide support on authorization and evaluation visits as requested by regional offices
  • Undertake or contribute to special projects, both internally and/or in cooperation with outside agencies to promote the PYP and IB and to extend the impact of both
  • Be familiar with and advise administrators and faculty on all PYP related documents
  • Organize, prepare agendas, coordinate/lead professional development activities for PYP staff
  • Responsible authority for the PYP application process including the authorization visit
  • Dependable performance requires reliable and dependable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

Personal or laptop computer, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator, telephone, electronic mobile devices, projector, video display monitor and related coaching equipment
