Primary Purpose:

 

Supervise students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons. Maintain a highly structured and orderly environment. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher on a daily basis.

 

Qualification

Education/Certification:

 

High school diploma or GED, Valid Texas educational aide certificate; successfully pass a skills assessment test

48 College Hours/ Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and word documents

Experience:

 

Three years experience as classroom aide or 30 semester hours of college credit with emphasis on child growth and development

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with certified teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured classroom environment.
  • Work with individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher.
  • Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments.
  • Distribute, collect, and check student assignments for accuracy.
  • Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teachers.
  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Record student attendance and discipline referrals according to established procedures.
  • Supervise students assigned to ISS during lunch and bathroom breaks.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events when required.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Assist with administration of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.

  • Accuracy – work is neat and correct and completes all work assigned.

  • Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress.  The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
