Job Title: Electrician

Primary Purpose:

Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install electrical systems, services, and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems in district facilities.

 

Education/Certification:

Valid journeyman electrician license, valid Texas driver’s license

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of local electrical codes
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculation
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and wiring and operating principles of motors
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
  • Ability to communicate with others in English

Experience:

Five years experience in electrical field

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprint
  • Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
  • Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipm
  • Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instrument
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bend
  • Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, etc.
  • Receive and complete work or
  • Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
  • Maintain accurate records on material and labor us
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and material
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are cle
  • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete project
  • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection proce
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equip
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety proce
  • Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condit
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediat
  • Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilitie
  • Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipm
  • Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by Director of Facilities and Construction.
  • Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
  • Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.
  • Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
  • Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required.
  • Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.
  • Install ceiling and flooring materials.
  • Operate light truck to transport furniture and equipment throughout district.
  • Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

Equipment Used:

Multimeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, and testing equipment; soldering iron; wire puller; pipe benders, hand and power tools (saw, drills, etc.); trencher; jackhammer; concrete saw; ladders; forklift; elevated lift equipment; light truck or van

This job requires the following physical demands:  significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent walking, standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching and/or crawling; work at elevated heights; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; work around electrical power lines significant fine finger dexterity.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and smell.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, and peripheral vision.  Demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate tools, mowers and landscaping equipment.  Occasionally required to work from ladders; and exposed to noise from power equipment.

 

Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing.  Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.  The job is performed under some temperature extremes and hazardous conditions and requires frequent districtwide travel.
